I'll be moving to Melbourne, Australia on 09/01/2009 and I'd like to know if there are some 'not so bad' places to go; Some guy into punk/ hard rock told me about some places but I need some point of views concerning that.
Any record store/ second hand shops?
As I am busy, I don't spend many time on the forum.

JB Hi Fi for the more mainstream stuff and Missing Link for more obscure material.

http://www.missinglink.net.au/

Missing Link has NWN stuff

Missing Link Records and Heartland Records are great. For drinking spots, it depends where you are going to live I guess. Its probably best to find somewhere local.

Cherry Bar is open and maniacs are thrashing cheap booze and even cheaper women nightly from 5pm. Trust me, I know.

Cherry Bar is the shittiest bar on this planet, BUT..... if you want to see some classic action then check it out. The place stinks of booze, whores and drugs

if your keen to check out some bands.... dont bother. The Melbourne scene is a shit fest. In terms of metal gigs/bands/people, there is nothing here

Great! Sounds like the kind of joint that would actually let someone like me through the doors.

I haven't been to Melbourne in a few years.. But apart from what the others have said.. Peril is the place to get some good obscure death industrial/dark ambience..They sell some metal as well as a bunch of bootleg videos/dvds..some obscure snuff type stuff under the counter and have a bunch of clothes. They also have a tattoo/body peircing room i think.

Most record shops any place in the world are a rip off unless your in some 3rd world country that has obscure markets etc... So most places will be as good as you have already seen or worse.

What is your reason for moving to Australia?

Is Rare Records the joint that has a big punk/psychobilly section?

"Back in the Day" on Russell St. (CBD) is alright if you want to rock out to some Megadeth, Motley, on a Saturday night etc.

I'm not involved in the metal scene down here, so I have no idea if there is anyone worth talking to. :p

Damon was working at 'Extreme Aggression'(Modern Invasion shopfront?) for a while but that was a good 12yrs ago. Modern Invasion has no store now that i know of but they still distribute within Oz.

Yeah i guess that was it. I was studying in Melbourne way back in the mid 1990s so not surprising its not there now. i remember another shop called Smoke Dreams, diagonally opposite the train station and they sold a pretty good selection of metal CDs, shirts and weed!
