Normally I like stripped down shows, like punk rock, but sometimes when a band does a stage show or atmosphere right, it can be really good.

What shows have you seen with an atmosphere that was really cool?

Here's one I saw that I liked --

Not really much of "atmosphere" but Blasphemy in Italy was really outstanding and utterly hysterical. The 30th anniversary of Mortuary Drape also delivered something special.

Most times the atmosphere at shows is ruined by the venue itself.

Cult of Fire impressed me last year.

Mayhem did ok, but i couldn't even confirm that there was a drummer behind all the fog.

CRYPTOPSY (original constellation)

Got the chance to enjoy their live set in a rural part of Sweden some 10 years ago. Pub gig, 20 persons attending. Pure heaven.

One of my favorite atmospheres at any gig was Clandestine Blaze at Turku Saatanalle few years ago. That was something really special, even with all the morons with their phones up in the air.

Also seeing Nifelheim in this shitty little bar and in front row was something that fit their music so goddamn well. Left the gig with sore throat and terrible ringing in the ears! Good stuff.

Metalucifer - Keep it True 2011 (The "Bulldozing is True" gig) - pure heavy metal euphoria all over the place. Words cannot describe how excited the whole crowd was.

Gogol Bordello - I saw them a year and a half ago in a sold out venue with 1000 people capacity. Haven't seen a single person taking photos/videos with a smartphone throughout the entire set, because the performance was THAT dynamic and simply magical, so nobody felt like missing out on a single moment of it.

I was also lucky enough to witness both Venenum's and Sonne Adam's first ever concerts and each one of them had a great atmosphere.

Dark Sonority

Hetroertzen (in 2013 with Frater D on vocals)

Drab majesty (in Brussels last year, the place were really cool, very intimate atmosphere that fits the band perfectly)

Neurosis

Mournful Congregation ( I saw them in 2013 and even on open air at 2pm the magic happened)

My Dying Bride (even if I don't like all of their material, they're truly a fascinating band on stage with a very charismatic frontman + the 3 first albums are pure classics)

(+Evoken,Mare,Nightbringer,Chameleonsvox, Triptykon, Indesinence,...)

There's plenty of other excellent band that I saw but these ones are still the best band I saw

Incantation's 'doom' set at the Oriental stage, at Brutal Assault last year...just perfect with a set consisting of only their slower, slimy songs

Archgoat at the same place/stage, a year before that - their performance is always to the point, without goofing around, unnecessary 'are you with us' or shit like that...

Wrathprayer live is total madness, let's you experience their studio work on a whole different level

Nifelheim

A few things instantly come to mind:

Sortilegia at Caledonian Darkness. Not a massive fan of this band on record but that gig was something else.

Urfaust, especially the first time I've seen them. Magical band.

Dark Sonority and Nyogthaeblisz at the final Nidrosian Black Mass.
Nyogthaeblisz were a total sonic warzone, a totally different band to what they are on record. Dark Sonority doing Kaosritual songs was amazing, black metal rarely clicks well in a live setting, that was one time it most certainly did.

Vomitor at the final NWN fest. Razor sharp guitar sound loud to the point it was almost intimidating.

Watain circa 2006. Don't think I will ever forget the putrid stench of rotten blood everywhere.
