Recommend here Metal of all subgenres with lyrical themes that discusses Egyptian, Sumerian, Babylonian, Arabian, Hebrew (both christian and anti-christian bands), and Middle Eastern/North African mythology and history in General, Central Asian stuff like Iran is fine too, there was an apparently neat BM band from Kyrgyztan that I do not remember its name.

Most bands recommended here are just generic Nuclear Blasted Artificial Metal that you would hear on The Mummy, so I would appreciate to hear some more good Egyptian/Sumerian-themed Black/Death/Thrash/Trad Heavy - Bonus points if they use traditional instruments.

And just for the sake of the discussion, I would also be very grateful for Egyptian/Sumerian/Arabian/Persian ambient music like Karl Sanders' below.

That said, the bands do not necessarily need to be from the Middle East, nor do the lyrics need to be in english.

Melechesh (Israel) - The best example, self-declared "Mesopotamian Black Metal", tainted by Nuclear Blast, but its first three albums are pretty enjoyable, and its riffs are catchy as hell.

AlNamrood (Saudi Arabia) - Ignore the Dance of Death-esque 3D album covers, because their sound is awesome, bonus respect for them coming out of Saudi Arabia, risking their lives for only making music.

Amaseffer (Israel) - The Prince of Egypt's soundtrack but with guitar riffs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7lx8a9fd4w

Arallu (Israel) - Mesopotamian Black/Death of Shamash.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EkDnQSg5E0

Karl Sanders (Greenville, SC) - Amazing Egpytian ambient! anything more like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kby8c6rox3Y

نار جهنم / Narjahanam (Bahrain)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j46Piu5e8pM

Nile (Greenville, SC)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOMH08Gk5Bw

Odious (Egypt)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYMyEDtk4Bg

The Horn (Australia) - The entire Egyptian Book of the Dead turned into concept albums, this for sure seems to be incredible but I have yet to hear more of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRNi_0PKcAI

Pentagram / Mezarkabul (Turkey) - I know this band for some time but I still need time to listen to all of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ivD6Mu8Cv8

Scarab (Egypt) - Straightforward Egyptian Mythology-themed DM.

Ayat indeed is the best from the Middle East.
Obvious but almighty Absu.
Martyrium (Ger) had mythological lyrics too on their excellent L.V.X. Occulta.

Motherfuckin DAMAAR. Wish they had more output, absolute beast of a recording. Does anyone know if these dudes went on to form other projects? I'd be interested if so, as I'm sure others would, too.

I really hate to talk trash when motherfuckin Damaar is mentioned, but they do not have any lyrical themes about Middle Eastern mythology, they just originate from Lebanon, this thread is not really about recommending bands that only originate from the Middle East but besides that do not sing about that theme.

I blindly assumed their lyrical themes would have been in that range, my bad on that!

There was an Iranian band called Mogh that played at Never Surrender Fest. I’ve never listened to their studio recordings but I enjoyed their set well enough.

Akrabu. Not metal but it is a great project created by Scorpios from the mighty Crimson Moon. Musically it reminds me a bit of Dead Can Dance (in their more Eastern style) and lyrically/spiritually, this project is focused on Sumerian mythos and of course, vampirism.

That Melechesh Sphynx album. Damn! Those riffs!
