This album sounds killer to me although its more then a little pointless to compare this to Violence or Unchain-era D666. Firstly the entire lineup aside from KK is different. Then as was mentioned none of the members live near to each other making impromptu jam sessions impossible. Finally as obvious as it is to say the band is in a totally different space musically now then they were over ten years ago. I'll agree Unchain is a stronger album but its apples and oranges.

I'd consider D666 to be in the same boat as the likes of Deceased as well as the 80s output of both Bathory and Voivod. The bands went through a gradual but very considerable stylistic shift and you'll always have the background din of folks shouting the early stuff is better (and truthfully it usually is) but the later stuff ruled as well. I'll take both Luck of the Corpse and As the Weird Travel On, War & Pain and Nothingface and The Return and Hammerheart.

Ian played guitar on "Unchain" and does to this day. Keith was a solo enterprise for the demo/1st album which is basically the same thing. Ian has been in the band since.

2nd listen through, this is starting to sound pretty good.

I've listened to it 4 times in the past 24 hours and bloody hell it's very good!! For me it's equal parts what I expect and don't expect from Destroyer 666.

Decent album, very epic yet agressive in typical Destroyer way,the only thing I don't like is the sound,I agree it could be more heavy, but it doesn't ruin this record that much.I'm gonna buy this for sure, the vinyl version would be a dream, anyone knows which label will release it on black wax?

yes, I know...

The album is killer, the sound is a now typically Necromorbus sound, unfortunately.

I didn't know it was recorded there. Necromorbus has a "sound" now?

yes they did. and yes, he has. his reference (in his opinion as far as I know) is "in hora mortis" for his best work up to date. listen to the recent watain, the last "razor of occam" and the d666 album and you will see, there is a "sound" of necromorbus...

This would have been a KILLER release if it weren't for the incredibly WEAK sound. The music remains 100% D666 though, but I can't get past the shitty production. It's like D666 recorded this post-vasectomy or something. The quality music is still there but the balls aren't part of it anymore.

The production reminds me very much of Merrimacks' "Of Entropy and life denial", which is very bad considering that this prevents the otherwise very good material from shining through.
