I love Tangerine Dream, they are easily in my top 10 bands! Almost everything they have done is amazing!

'Zeit' is probably my favorite T.D. aside from the first one...

Blade Runner's soundtrack is fucking great in that style. Vangelis, I think.

Self-taught. I never knew that.

If you like Vangelis, check out Kraftwerk.

I have Legend on cd - did you know that the first original score was actually by Jerry Goldsmith and then for some reason it was replaced by Tangerine Dream? I don't have Firestarter, but I have the one for Near Dark and also The Keep - all of these recordings have too much of an '80's vibe to them sometimes... but they have their moments. I much prefer the earlier stuff such as Stratosfear back to their first album.

I have this on CD + the extended version of Legend with the Goldsmith score intact. While I like the Goldsmith score for what it is, it doesn't fit into the sureal and mystical scenery of Legend, at least not as well as the Tangerine Dream score.

yeah.. the track with John Anderson from YES is pretty good - he's got the voice and stature of a small elf as well.

One of my all time favourite bands. Love all their periods even the very recent albums.
For a change for people wanting to check their "new age" sound I would recommend Underwater Sunlight album. Great album!
Surely Klaus Schulze rules. Especially the first period. Nothing can beat that cold vast atmosphere on Cyborg album.
Also Fenriz project Neptune Towers was really good for a metalhead trying to sound like Klaus Schulze. Can recommend that too. Actually this project made me in my teens to start checking Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Cosmic Jokers, Adelbert Von Deyen etc etc

it was always strange for me that he participated on such a fucker of a metal record (in the positive sense, it's my favourite mayhem platter)

I guess some of you already know this, but Conrad Schnitzler actually regretted he sent them Silvester Anfang - it was something like if he had known what Mayhem were about, he would've made something darker for them.

Face it, Deathcrush is great but Silvester... is pretty hilarious sounding. Very Happy

If anyone remembers where you can read Schnitzler's story about it, post the url!

On the topic; my fave Tangerine Dream album is Zeit but I'm still not entirely convinced... should try some more. Oh, and get into Klaus Schulze as well.

Cluster are just great, and so are Harmonia!

The whole story about how Schnitzler participated on Deathcrush was revealed on an email that Warren Schofield got from Conrand himself asking him some info in order to be used for some mayhem documentary several years ago...
You can read the whole email there:

The first T.D. recording I listened was their second LP "Electronic Meditation" (Ohr Recs, Germany 1971). That first version if FUCKIN expensive but all these material from T.D. but also from related bands got re-released in GREAT editions by Think Progressive Recs and the price is normal. Look for it.... Just start from their earlier stuff and move towards the newer... Have a GREAT trip with these recordings...
