Has anyone heard the Remix on Konqueror records and if so, how does it compare to the original thrash records recording? I'm getting a lot of friction from the band about releasing the old version as they are telling me that The old master was not even transfered at the right speed! (For some weird reason, probably because of pitching the tape recorder for some vocal effect, the old master is pitched up one half note), and that the remix on Konqueror is exactly as it was intended to sound. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

For my ears, the mix of the Konqueror CD is louder (more bass, less treble) and slightly different to the original CD. Sounds warmer for me as the high treble-frequencies of the hi-hat and cymbals were a bit disturbing on the Thrash Rec. CD.

But the speed seems ok for me.

So overall it's better?

Hahaha...tough question. The new mix is better for the ears, or other way around: my ears.
I dislike the missing of the Dark Abbey demo Sad

We have the Dark Abbey demo as part of the LP set, it will be included as well as the Disorientation demo, so no worries there.

Konqueror's version has more audible bass to these ears, which makes it sound really authentic like old Carnage..

ok, well perhaps I should appease the band and use the Remix in this rare instant for the LP re-issue

I think the new mix sounds better EXCEPT for the compression, which was really overdone. It's one of the loudest CDs I've bought in the last year. They really should have toned down the dynamic squashing by at least 6 db. But I can believe what the band is saying about the pitch of the original. It would be nice to get a happy medium on your version - correct the pitch but ditch the compression.

That may be a good idea, as much as I dislike not using the original, they really have a hate-on for it, and I don't like pissing off the bands.

Ultimately we all want to hear something that sounds good and nice to listen to. And if that pleases the band, why not?

Good point, ok, well I think I may do that then afterall. This original is a bit tinny and sometimes hard on the ears

For my 2 cents I think the re-issue sounds superior. As was mentioned, the compression for the sake of volume is the only drawback to the Konqueror release.

...god damn it pisses me off these over compressed CDs. They are selling damaged goods.

So i'll kick back the volume 5 or 6 db and we should have a winner

Well I just told the band that we would use the new mix and they are very thrilled about that. Got new liner notes and everything. Hey, sorry again for the delay on the Purtenance, I'll be sure to pad all the release dates from now on so the expectation is more realistic.
