This is what was posted on their myspace page:

"Word has filtered through to a fair few people, but just to make it official, Shackles is no more.

There are several reasons, but basically after the release of a killer LP in 'Traitors' gate' and subsequent line-up issues I decided the band had reached its peak and therefore run its course. It's time to move on.

We all have irons in various fires, the heat of which will burn heavy metal bright in the deepest night. Expect more assaults from the southern trenches in the near future...

As a final strike, Hells Headbangers will be pressing a run of shirts with a killer new design. In the meantime, copies of all Shackles releases are still available from various labels/distros, so stock up and coil yourselves in our sin. The sin of Sydney will ALWAYS be the sign of Shackles.

Dismissed."

Reading between the lines, it sounds like they were having difficulties getting a good line-up together and sticking to it, and maybe it just got too tiresome to worry about..?

Ended on a good note at least. The debut is amazing, listened to it last night as a matter of fact.

Yeah, debut is great, but they had a great potential to record even beter second album. It's a pity.

How does the LP compare to the 7" on Iron Bonehead (I think?)? The 7" is ok & am curious about the LP but never remember to look for it on HHB until after I've signed off.

I would say the LP is natural progress. Better in all way. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Better Shackles than Trench Hell, says I.

Don't get me wrong, Shackles was good and I did really enjoy their 7" and LP, but they weren't the best thing out of Australia in the last few years. Still, it does seem rather premature.

Guess the rumors were true then.
That's lame.
Great bands are ending too early.

'Traitors Gate' rules! Listen to it almost every day at work/home/gym.
