REVENGE “Infiltration. Downfall. Death” LP Punishment and reward…Listening to “Infiltration.Downfall.Death” is at once a painful and exhilarating experience for those who can understand its purpose and appreciate its power. Those squeamish cowards for whom this album does not evoke such a strong response were simply not meant to understand it. Not since “War Cult Supremacy” has an album decimated the listener in so vile a manner as Revenge have done with this, their third full-length album. The new anthems of superiority and subjugation presented on “Infiltration.Downfall.Death” are the purest embodiment of violence recorded this decade. Within the first cacophonous seconds of ‘Death Heritage’, the listener is dragged unwittingly into the chaos. J. Read (Conqueror, Axis of Advance) and P. Helmkamp (Order From Chaos, Angelcorpse) are veterans in crafting the sound of total annihilation and have brought their songwriting and playing to a new peak of extremity with this recording. Cold, bitter, and brutal, Revenge leave nothing to chance with these songs. Every chord change and drum fill has been calculated to channel the most intense form of disgust and contempt. It is this quality of total control against a backdrop of disorder, suffering, and war that sets “Infiltration.Downfall.Death” apart from the meager output that passes for extreme metal these days. This album is not some childish attempt to rebel against politically correct society just for the sake of rebelling, nor is it rooted in a fantasy world of Satan and magick. This album is firmly rooted in reality. Read and Helmkamp have seen the shit and scum of which our societies are primarily composed and rejected every worthless piece of it. This rejection is not a surface-level statement made for show or status. Rather, it forms the core around which Revenge operates. It is integral to the two individuals in the band and vital to the spirit of the music they create. “Infiltration.Downfall.Death” explores the depths of hate from the perspective of those truly enlightened enough to recognize that the path of power and self-reliance is the only path worth taking. Those too meek and sensitive to appreciate this outlook would do well to cower within their comfortable society and cling to all of the sterile accoutrements of the modern world that permit one to avoid acknowledging the pervasive sickness all around us. Revenge is mockery of that pitiful existence. Revenge is recognition that the so-called “noble” ideals of compassion and faith are tenuous and certain to give way in the face of the impending chaos encroaching upon our idyllic world as the fabric holding it together is gnawed away by the mouths of vermin. At that moment when the fantastic image to which feeble men cling is shattered and the harsh and alienating winds of reality blow forth, then, only those men who have embraced their isolation and purged fear from their hearts will remain upright. All others are certain to fall and be trampled underfoot. Click here to order the regular version. Wholesale is available with minimum of 10 copies. Witchfinder General “Buried Amongst the Ruins” Die Hard LP+7″May 15th, 2008Witchfinder General “Buried Amongst the Ruins” Die Hard LP+7″
There is simply no denying that Witchfinder General were one of the heaviest and most evil heavy metal bands of all time. The legacy of Witchfinder General is well known and need not be recounted here. Suffice to say that, at the time of its release in 1982, no band had riffs as slow and heavy as those on the “Soviet Invasion” 12” EP. Even though Witchfinder General is usually considered to be part of the NWOBHM scene, their style was always heavier and darker and more akin to Black Sabbath than to the more punk influenced heavy metal acts that were prevalent in the UK at that time. Arguably their best recording, “Soviet Invasion” has long been out of print save for a few bootleg versions that have been circulated. Now these megalithic tracks are available once again on vinyl. In addition to this, “”Buried Amongst the Ruins” also includes four recently unearthed live tracks from 1981 (including one song, “Phantasmagorical,” that was never recorded except during this live performance) as well as a 7” reproduction of the legendary first EP, “Burning a Sinner” b/w “Satan’s Children” originally released in 1981. This 180 gram, black vinyl LP comes in a deluxe gatefold jacket printed in silver to create a ghostly appearance. The 7” featuring the “Burning a Sinner” tracks is a faithful replica of this ultra rare EP, printed almost exactly as it was when it was originally released in 1981. Accompanying the vinyl is an A-2 size poster as well as a comprehensive 12” x 12” booklet featuring rare photos, fliers, liner notes, and other cult elements that will appease even the most fanatical Witchfinder General worshiper. Die Hard version comes on green180 gram vinyl and is encased in a gatefold jacket printed black and housed inside a slipcase. The Die Hard version also comes with a vinyl sticker featuring the “Burning a Sinner” cover art and a Witchfinder General turntable mat. SOLD OUT. PLEASE GO TO BURIED BY TIME AND DUST. Order From Chaos “Stillbirth Machine” LP Out NowMay 6th, 2008Order From Chaos “Stillbirth Machine” LP
“Stillbirth Machine” has long been heralded by many as the greatest OFC release. So highly regarded is it that some have referred to it as the finest work of extreme metal ever produced. Irrespective of such sweeping assertions, no convincing argument could be made which would deny this album a place alongside other classic metal albums of the highest order. After releasing a series of demos and the infamous “Will to Power” EP, OFC unveiled their first full-length album in 1993 on Decapitated Records amid a storm of controversy regarding the legitimacy of its alternate release on the notorious Wild Rags label. Now, 15 years later, the legacy of this album has been well-established and NWN! is proud to release the definitive vinyl version of “Stillbirth Machine” produced with the full permission, cooperation, and collective input of each of the members of OFC. To say that this album is flawless, could possibly be considered an understatement. It is a perfect unification of control and chaos, devastation and superiority. “Stillbirth Machine” opens with a long intro that, on any other album, one might be tempted to skip. Here, however, this passage merely cultivates a neurotic tension in anticipation of the onslaught that ensues when Chuck Keller’s guitar pierces the aural fabric during the initial seconds of “The Edge of Forever” before the frenetic drumming of Mike Miller and the sadistic and wrathful vocals and bass playing of Pete Helmkamp lead the listener into the depths of war. Throughout the remainder of “Stillbirth Machine”, OFC sustain an energy level unrivaled by nearly any other album. Their style, an amalgamation of elements of black, death, and thrash metal, is among the most distinctive and powerful musical concoctions ever produced. Featuring such vessels of annihilation as ‘Power Elite’, ‘Iconoclasm Conquest’, and ‘Blood and Thunder’, “Stillbirth Machine” set a standard that has yet to be attained by any other album. Regular LP: 180 gram heavy weight black vinyl LP, gatefold jacket, double sided A2 poster. Sold Out Die Hard LP: 180 gram heavy weight “beer colored” vinyl LP, gatefold jacket, double sided A2 poster, embroidered patch, foil stamped slip case jacket. Click here to order. Ares Kingdom “Firestorms And Chaos” CD Out NowMay 3rd, 2008If a band’s status in the underground metal scene were based on skill, artistry, integrity, and innovation, Ares Kingdom would be heralded as the most important underground metal band in existence by anyone familiar with this genre of music. Unfortunately, such attributes rarely form the basis for the opinions of the masses. Nonetheless, for those who can appreciate their genius, Ares Kingdom are regarded as one of the greatest bands currently active in the scene. Their music, held together by the incomparable guitar playing of Chuck Keller, retains a healthy reverence for metal history while also exploring other territory less traveled. Perhaps Ares Kingdom are not given the respect they deserve because their music is simply impossible to categorize. One might be tempted to merely call it deathrash, but that would be far too simplistic a statement of the band’s intentions and influences. Ares Kingdom also appropriate elements of death and black metal into their structure and style for a result that is unique and wholly effective. “Firestorms and Chaos” compiles all of the non-album material released to date by Ares Kingdom. Featured here are the self-titled demo (recorded when the band was only a two piece consisting of Chuck Keller on vocals and guitars and Mike Miller on drums), the Chaosmongers Alive EP (recorded live in studio and featuring the full lineup including Alex Blume on vocals and Doug Overbay on bass), as well as the ‘Firestorm Redemption’ and ‘Failsafe’ 12” EPs which included B-sides not available on the “Return to Dust” album. For anyone who already has all of these releases, this CD is merely for convenience purposes. For those uninitiated souls that have yet to discover the power and majesty of Ares Kingdom, this CD may serve as an introduction to their apocalyptic world. |
