Ace Still of Goatlord/Doom Snake Cult RIP 5/20/2017

I received the sad news on Sat. morning from Glen (Doom Snake Cult) of Ace Still’s passing. Many years ago when I first heard Ace’s vocals in both Goatlord and Doom Snake Cult, I was immediately hooked on his raspy Bathory-eque style. There was something raw and honest in his delivery that was lacking from the US death metal sound of the early 90’s. Black metal wasn’t as popular back then and Goatlord and DSC were one of the few bands mixing early black metal with doom metal. Ace literally wore his influences on his sleeve as evidenced by this photo where you can see a Paun Chain sticker (turned upside down to invert the cross!) and a hand drawn NME logo. Ace Still will be missed but never forgotten for his contribution to black death doom evolution. Forever Black Dwell in Hell!
